South Downs Way - we did it!
This morning we set out for Eastbourne, from Cuckmere Haven, with views of Seaford Cliff across the other side of the estuary, (see first extra) as we began our ascent. Fortunately, today weather conditions were much cooler and we even had a few minutes of drizzle as we began our traverse of the Seven Sisters, before descending to the beach at Birling Gap. All these chalk cliffs are crumbling away, but the erosion is especially noticeable at Birling Gap where the softer, combe rock is eroding at the rate of about one metre per year!
The second extra shows the view looking back at the Seven Sisters across the Gap, as we ascended once more. The third extra shows our final push up Beachy Head, with its two light houses - the older Belle Tout on top of the cliffs, and this newer one one in the sea, which makes it more easily visible to shipping in bad weather conditions. The fourth extra shows our final descent into Eastbourne, for celebratory drinks at the end of the pier.
Blipped late due to further celebrations back at the hotel, and poor Wifi!
