To The Lighthouse
We spent most of today visiting our friends L and P at their holiday apartment in Swanage. We were joined by our other Uni friend M and her husband P. It is but a short walk from their flat to Durlston Country Park and National Nature Reserve. Here, we walked along the top of the cliffs which afforded us good views of Guillemot and Razorbills, before turning inland and walking through the flowery grassland. Amongst the many species of plants were lots of orchids, mostly Pyramidal, Knapweed, several different Umbellifers ( Carrot, Parsnip etc), thistles, bedstraws and thymes. There were also some Marbled White butterflies, all moving too fast to photograph. This is the view from the flowery meadows looking back at Anvil Point Lighthouse with the English Channel beyond. The landscape is very undulating because it is the site of past quarrying. The lighthouse is now fully automated and there are two holiday cottages for let on the site. It was a delightful walk, and altogether a grand day out.
We returned home in time for me to watch the final of The Great British Sewing Bee which, as always, was both entertaining and inspiring.
