Welcome to…New Zealand?

Happy Canada Day!

I am not a big flag waver. I love my country and I love our flag, especially its distinctiveness. I don’t feel the need to make that obvious…it’s a given. I’m OK with the flag on public buildings, and no need for multiple flags at events. One does the trick.

As a sports fan, I look for the flag first to see how the Canadian athletes are doing. For the much of my long life that was almost like self flagellation. Now, it is a source of even greater Canadian pride. For example, Chelsea, the best women’s soccer team, just became stronger by signing its third Canadian.

This flag is the only time I can ever recall a flag being flown for me and my wife. We had arranged to stay in an Air b and b in Pauanui, NZ. When we pulled up to the house this flag was flying. Our hostess told us that she owned almost 40 flags and tried to fly the appropriate flag for any international guests. Nice touch!

The bonus, and the extra photo, was the view from our bedroom balcony. Her place was halfway up a small extinct volcano, Mt. Paku.
