Rogue Hollyhock
Our late, beloved neighbor, at our cottage in Point Roberts, loved flowers. She had beds along the entirety of over 50 meters of fence. The predominant plant was Hollyhocks. She spent hours every day nurturing, tending, watering and deadheading them. Every Sunday she took several large, beautiful bouquets of flowers to church to decorate the altar. She became known as the Hollyhock Lady. She was also very generous with her plants and in time all of her neighbors had Dahlias, Poor Man’s Orchids, and Hollyhocks.
This is one very large Hollyhock. It is located in a crack in the middle of our parking pad between our cottage and our storage shed. It first appeared in the summer before the pandemic. Because the border between Canada and the USA was closed for over two years, this plant and many others survived with only Mother Nature watering them. My bedroom window is right in line with this plant and I worry the one night it might reach in and pinch me…or worse!
