La Roque Gageac
We drove over to Sarlat but it was full. I don't like using the word "literally", but it truly was, literally full. Saturday, market day, first day of the summer holidays and thronging with people wobbling off pavements onto the road and weaving their bicycles in front of us. No-one got hurt because the traffic was almost gridlocked and at a standstill. We had planned to have lunch there, but gave up and went instead to nearby La Roque Gageac, a picture-postard village by the river. We had a nice lunch and then walked up the terraces that run up the cliff face. There is a microclimate there that is generous to banana trees, ferns and giant grasses. Extra shows the village from road level and madame pondering what to eat.
