Another Languedoc year...

Temptation

Cherries are everywhere at the moment; on trees, at the market, in supermarkets and on roadside stalls. My distant neighbours have an enormous cherry tree some branches of which hang tantalisingly over the fence and into our garden. The tree is absolutely laden and the cherries are ripe.

Great gaggles of birds squawk as they feast on the fruit. Soon it will all be gone. I had thought I'd pick that which is hanging on our side and take the fruit to my neighbours and offer to pay for it. But what if they think I'm nicking them? We're new to the village so I don't want to alienate them. What do you think?
