Sunrise over Whitewash Head

This was an amazing sunrise! The colours were incredibly intense this morning, and the reflections of the lights of the houses made it even more dramatic. It was difficult choosing which one to post - there are some more here.

Whitewash Head is the name of the seaward clifftop on Scarborough Hill, above Sumner Beach, in Canterbury NZ. My home on Clifton Hill looks out over Scarborough Hill.

The walkway from Scarborough, over Whitewash Head to Taylors Mistake, was badly affected in the February and June 2011 quakes. If you're interested to see the damage you could look here. Be warned, you need a head for heights, even to look at this video! I used to walk over here such a lot - but not any more. Many many homes have been 'red zoned', because they are now too close to the edge of the cliffs.
