Another busy day! We started our day with a visit to nearby Levens Hall - incredible topiary gardens, which are world famous and were originally set out in 1694. It’s the oldest topiary garden in the world and some of the shrubs are over 300 years old.
Then we went on to Sizergh Castle which was very close. Totally different but again lovely gardens, full of colour. Inside the castle ( really an old Manor House) there was so much history and gorgeous old wooden furniture- a lovely place to visit.
From there we went up to Tarn Haws for the obligatory walk round the tarn. It still seems very decimated from the storm several years ago, but it’s still a beautiful spot.
Our last stop was at Windermere’s Fell Foot Park for a short stroll before heading back to the hotel.
We are so grateful to have a lifetime membership for the National Trust and also membership of Historic Houses, which means we can visit all these beautiful places free - except of course for coffee and cake - well, you have to repay somehow!
