The Man and the Mountains. Sir Edmund Hillary
This weekend is the 60th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tensing reaching the top of the world on Mt Everest. This is a very big deal for a little dog so this morning we were sitting in the Sir Edmund Hillary centre at The Hermitage at Mt Cook (Aoraki) watching a grrreat move about that when the power went off. What an exciting time we are having I thought. It was raining outside and The Bossess was starting to suffer from serious coffee deprivation but interesting fact No 324 says that Latte machines need power. BIG SIGH from The Bossess.
The next interesting bit of info was that the Hermitage has a generator....that hadn't started and the whole village was probably powerless as well. "How would we keep warm", said The Bossess. The Boss smiled quietly. I barked nothing. Then the best laid plans of men and dogs went wrong. The generator started, the cafe opened, The Latte machine got hot and peace descended on the world. Meanwhile The Boss went through the door marked no exit (originally because of sno on the roof) and worked on his iPhone for this image.
We returned to our motel and discovered that they also had a noisy laundry. There was a generator behind it.
This is indeed a fun place. Oh and there was a really cool Planetarium presentation on Black holes that The Bossess went to sleep in. The Boss thought it was amazing. I thought the colours were pretty, so, we all got something out of it.
Ed Hillary was an amazing New Zealander and he did indeed "Knock the Bastard off"
Cheers
