Yow Yow
I took a different direction on my walk and came across this sign.
From the 1890s onwards the area around Woy Woy became increasingly popular as a holiday destination. These building blocks advertised in 1908 were probably used for holiday houses and weekenders. Many of these were cheaply built, virtually from kits. Some are still here, though interspersed now with more ambitious architect-designed homes. The advertised estate was opposite Woy Woy. Hence the name, which is 'Woy Woy' spelled backwards.
Woy Woy, by the way, was well known to Spike Milligan, who frequently stayed there with his parents. He called it 'the world's only above-ground cemetery'.
