More peacocks…….
…….but quite different to the ones I saw on Saturday. Today, these are the caterpillars of Peacock butterflies. Ever since I learned two years ago that these butterflies lay their eggs on nettles, I have searched the clump of nettles in the corner of the garden and been disappointed not to find any evidence of the butterflies passing that way, especially as we do get quite a few visiting the garden. This year, our nettles have finally passed the peacock butterfly test and two stalks were heaving with little black wrigglers guzzling the leaves. I was delighted and finally felt justified in leaving the nettles growing in that corner.
