Thankfully, One Direction!
Today I drove up to Seaton in East Devon and caught the bus to Lyme Regis in Dorset (see first extra). I then walked back to Seaton through the undercliff. A distance of around seven and a half miles. This signpost was near the end of the walk and 3/4 of a mile from Seaton. I was thankful I did not have to walk back to Lyme Regis! The undercliff was formed by huge landslides. One of the largest and best documented took place on Christmas Eve 1839 (see second extra). Notice boards at either end make clear the walk is not to be undertaken lightly (third extra). Photos cannot do justice to this wild and remote- feeling area (see last two exras). The path goes through, over and around huge fissures and steep banks, that look like the ramparts of lost Iron age hill forts. Occasionally there is a brief glimpse of the sea or a towering cliff on the landward side.
