Diary of an Edinburgher

Bin Find No 7,435

Elizabeth came to collect Archie, and this time he took his overnight bag with him, for he was having a sleepover! They are meeting a friend tomorrow, and as he's no bother as an overnight guest, this was the easiest way.

We went into town for lunch, to a new place we'd been reading about for a while - good reports on the food. It was down the Royal Mile, which was a bit of a trial as it was SO crowded.

The food was nice. Very nice, but I find with these 'small plates', it ends up being far more expensive than a proper meal. And why, when TWO people are sharing the 'small plates' is there THREE of everything, instead of, say, FOUR? The service was great - very friendly waitresses.

We got a 35 bus up the Mile - I couldn't cope with the crowds AND going uphill, and then had a walk through the Meadows. It was lovely and warm, my ideal temperature, about 22° and no wind.

There were people in white Halloween face masks standing with screens, so we went to have a nosey as to what they were protesting about. They were staunch vegans, and on the screens were extremely horrible videos of animal cruelty. The intense young man quizzed us about what we eat. And we were pleased to be able to tell him our whole lunch had been vegetarian. Oops, NO! We had prawns. And they are 'sentient beings', apparently. Sorry, prawns…

This morning on our walk, Archie and I found these nice boots and a very nice bag. When JR passed later, the bag was gone. Also, another reason to complain about the city council - the weeds!!

PS I’ve just been reading about prawns and shrimps and the awful conditions they are bred in…
