Shanklin
Another fabulous day, and sadly our last. In the morning we had a lazy slow breakfast, and then a walk in East Cowes. Went into the cemetery there, where we were shocked to see the number of brown, fallen, autumn-looking leaves on the ground. An unexciting lunch in a pub, and then we went to Shanklin, which I hadn’t visited before. A proper seaside town with beach huts and crazy golf and lots of cafes. We walked along the crumbling cliff top to Ventnor (main blip) - there have been several landslips, and trying to reinforce it just seems to delay the inevitable. However, they clearly have ensured it’s safe to use both the top path, and the path at the base of the cliff which goes along beside the beach. We returned from Ventnor along the lower route, and didn’t quite get splashed by the sea. First extra. A lot of people swimming in the sea, walking, sitting in cafes. A very nice place to spend Sunday afternoon.
