The lapwing
Finally made it to the main exhibition of Holmfirth Arts Week this morning, and spent ages looking at the work of many amazingly talented local people. Unfortunately the painting of the sea I'd really like was way over my budget, but I couldn't resist this lovely little ceramic plate by Sue Jenkins.
Had to go back in to Holmfirth this evening to collect it from the Civic Hall, and MrM suggested staying in town for a while and going for a drink. The popular bars were already packed, so we opted instead for a pub which was advertising live music. The band was pretty good, so we stayed a while and were chatting to the couple next to us during the break in the music, when the bar emptied. It seems that someone was offended by someone else's remark, they'd gone outside and a fight had broken out. Everyone else, including all the bar staff, had followed to either take part or to watch the violence! As soon as the fracas began to subside we hastily left the pub, as the band started playing again to an audience of two. We won't be going there again...
