Went to the dump earlier today. We'd accumulated enough big rubbish / recyclables to justify the trip. Checking t'interweb for opening times I was pleasantly surprised to see it said they recycle video tapes.

Past experience means that I somehow doubted this. Sure enough, failing to find a suitable bin, I asked. The Man-in-Orange said "Yeah, we take them - put them in the Household Waste skip..."

Sigh.
