THE ROOKIE
I was at Road America today for Day 1 of the WeatherTech International Challenge with Brian Redman...3 more days to go. The shooter shown is a rookie at race photography and I was showing him a few things today. Here we were learning the difference between panning something at close range vs. greater distance. He picked it up right away...grasps concepts well.

He's a local kid, a graduate of our local high school and now a senior at the university majoring in biology with a minor in Environmental Studies. He'll graduate in one more semester. He was never a student of mine as I had already retired before he became a freshman.

He's a shot putter and discus thrower at the university as he was in high school......BIG boy. He's about 6'2" may 6'3" and clocks in at 250+. Strong as an ox...mongo strong. His upper arms are larger than my thighs! He puts an Olympic weight shotput (16 Pounds / 7.257kg) 14-15 meters. Whew!

Also smart as a whip. Everything I told him today he sucked right up and did it perfectly. Never made a mistake. He's a real sponge when it comes to learning new things. Great kid....I also know his parents and his brother (who was a student of mine). Mom works at the high school with "challenged" students. Great parenting skills...does all the right things.
