Breakfast on the Pond
Early Thursday walk as usual, dry but a little dull to start the day.
An interesting phenomena - we feel the climb up past Lady Blantyre’s rock, with its drastically reduced trees, feels longer now! Perhaps the twists and turns in the path are more apparent. (See Corinthian Column)
A good walk as usual ending at Coppice Pond. I haven’t seen the cygnets since before we went away but have seen other people’s reports. There was no sign of them last Thursday but today two were approaching with an adult from one direction and two from another with two adults as we stopped to feed them, then three appeared from the foliage at the far side of the pond together.
Only 7! Finally a single cygnet appeared and I waited for it to cross the pond so it didn’t miss out on feeding. No sign of any others as we walked to the other side. So it seems like there are now 8! Which isn’t too good out of the original 12. It’s hard to think what is happening to them now they are so big.
Interesting that all three adults are present (we initially believed them to be two sets of young separated by a couple of days)
So here we have them 8 youngsters, two mums and a dad!
I spent the morning doing some gardening. The day has brightened up considerably. Chris was filling in for a friend, who is on holiday, doing the driving for luncheon club so he got a free lunch.
I felt a bit tired after my morning exertions so haven’t been out again, instead I’ve been planning a few things for our next couple of trips.
Then got an email from Grace with Eda’s first school year report. All on line now and excellent. Well done Eda.
Hard to believe she has completed her reception year. She has gone to school today, her last day of term, dressed as a rabbit! Hope she’s not too warm!
