Herring

Salted raw herring with onions and pickles.

For an afternoon snack, I stopped by a herring ("haring") stand. It exceeded my expectations... it was very good. This was a nice pick-me-up after a morning of art museums (the Van Gogh Museum, lunch, then the Rijksmuseum). After the herring, complaints were made that I had fish breath, so we went to a bar with a wide selection of Netherlands craft beer on tap. Subsequent to this visit, fish-breath complaints abated. My past exposure to beer from the Netherlands was limited to Heineken (the worst beer on the planet) and Grolsh (barely better). I am therefore pleased to report that the Netherlands does make good beer.

(Note regarding a meal not pictured: I had bitterballen with lunch today. They were... odd.)
