Boundary Bay

About 50 meters behind me is the Canada- USA border. I am facing east on the east shore of Point Roberts, WA. The black marker in the center left denotes the border offshore, and is about a kilometer away. At its lowest the tide goes out past the marker. When the tide comes in over the hot sand the water is warmed for comfortable bathing and swimming.
The sandy shore allows cottagers who own boats (extra #1) to moor them safely nearby. The beach was once a popular destination for Canadians who would flock to the area on hot summer days. Today, the border is more difficult to cross and people who would have come to this beach now stay on the Canadian portion of the bay.
The cottages, seen in the distance of the extra, and many others to the right, outside the shot, are still mainly Canadian owned and have been passed down several generations.
