My sister described going back to work after a long break as ‘hideous’. I am back in the tropics, and although today wasn’t hideous, I don’t disagree with her overall statement. In my absence, a lunch place we frequent has erected a wall in its car park. Reason unknown.

My colleague invited a carnivore conservationist to the office for a meeting. He told me he’d studied at Canterbury at Kent where there is a well known conservation institute. ‘I was enjoying many things like Tesco and Asda’, he said. The Canterbury Tourist Board must be glad that the sights are resonating with visitors.
