We set out (after the worst breakfast we have eaten all trip.. instant porridge with no milk and pre packaged chocolate waffles at a B and B that supposedly provided breakfast) and made it as far as Derbyshire. On the way we stopped at Lyme Park. I was particularly keen to visit, as it is the location for the filming of Pemberly in the BBC adaption of Pride and Prejudice, which is both a favourite book, and movie of mine. Graham was very obliging and offered to pose at the place Mr Darcy walks out of the water and runs into Elizabeth Bennet, which is definitely one of the most loved and iconic scenes of the production. The house itself was impressive, lovely and somehow still homely, which is not a bad achievement. The kids didn’t object to seeing another house too much once they had eaten the scones and jam, and also found the Lego and toys carefully placed to entertain children while the adults wandered through the rooms. It was far less restricted than a few of the places we have visited, and in the end Graham was the only one to damage anything as he walked through the house.. he reversed into a lamp stand trying to take photos, but although the top of the lamp shade fell off, I don’t think too much damage was done.
