Southern Hawker
A cool greyish morning spent leading a walk round King's Dyke NR for the Huntingdon Local group of the BCN Wildlife Trust. Pete and I hadn't had time to visit beforehand, or really plan what we were going to say, but as we've been involved with the site for over thirty years, we were able to wing it!
Despite looking rather threatening, the rain held off until we were at the furthest point of the walk but didn't last too long - just as well as neither Pete nor I had taken coats!
The cool conditions meant that there weren't many insects about - this Southern Hawker was the star of the show, having looped over the group and then perched in a nearby Hawthorn, at a perfect height for everyone to get a good view.
