Woody Wednesday (26th July 2023)

This display was concocted this morning by Refna to welcome the annual visit to the Old Forge of our friend R., who used to live three doors up the road with a husband and their overlord Fluffy the cat, but who now lives on the coast in Saltburn and has come down for the WOMAD festival. The three of us had excellent time.

A couple of other things were going on today. One was that Buzz was away at a body shop having a little cosmetic work done. Confession time: a couple of weeks after I had Buzz I accidentally went into Drive instead of Reverse and so nudged the lip of the cast-iron bath that was in front of it on the drive behind the car port. There was a clunk as I pulled away and some nasty scratches below the front bonnet area (see Extra).

The local garage reckoned that the grill and bumper area would need to be removed and replaced and estimated a cost of about £875! I sought a second opinion from Tony at Calne Auto Repair Services on a nearby industrial estate, who I have been to before with various vehicles over the years and knew would do a first class job, and he restored the car to pristine condition today for £75.

I also learned this morning that a package I was expecting to arrive in about ten days time was instead arriving between 1300-1400 hr today, just to complicate things further. R. kindly offered to see to the delivery while I caught the bus to collect Buzz, so it all worked out and I drove back in Buzz promptly, in time for us to have a very good lunch at a new Arabian cafe in Calne run by a Syrian refugee couple.
