Down London

Up and out on a sunny morning; train to London, which was fairly busy but on time and trouble free for a change. Grabbed some lunch then in to Covent Garden area for a few shops. Added to my Icelandic library in Stanfords - always handy to get my RGS Fellows' discount. Over to the newly reopened National Portrait Gallery - some excellent exhibits. Into the Duke of York's theatre to see 'The Pillowman'. My son did his dissertation on Martin McDonagh's plays and films. Our first West End Theatre experience and it was very well staged and performed. Steve Pemberton's acting was excellent. Out in drizzle and tube to Whitechapel. Checked into our Premier Inn Hub on Brick Lane - these are great little hotels - we had 3 windows onto the street so that we could watch the comings and goings, but very good sound proofing. Out for excellent fish and chips at Jack the Chipper then back as it was starting to pour with rain, which continued through the night.
