Furness Abbey

We went to Barrow today to visit Furness Abbey.  This was our first visit and there are extensive red sandstone ruins.  In its heyday, Furness knew prosperity on a huge scale. At the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s, it was the second richest Cistercian monastery in England.

We returned home via the coast road and had lunch overlooking Morecambe Bay at Bardsea.

Rain held off, too.
