Posh ghosts
Social Walking today with the rambling club, walking from near home to Berry Pomeroy Castle, one of the most haunted places in Devon. Ghosts are quite posh here, dignified silent noblewomen and royalty, who only seem to haunt castles , whereas in a place I used to live, they haunted the taprooms of pubs, and monopolised the bathrooms of terraced houses, and were mostly men making a racket, and moving things about. After a coffee at the little cafe we moved on through the posh woods of the Berry Pomeroy estate and stopped for sandwiches near the Gatcombe Brook where the bird of the day, a green woodpecker flew in. Unusually we have heard one at home this week, and near Brixham.
We headed back past the biblical sounding Shadrack cottage and farm, ending where we started at the wedding cake resembling Church House Inn at Marldon which may or may not be haunted - see extra.
Excellent day. Nothing really unusual happened except I fell over, which isn’t really unusual.
