Is Asda now a holiday destination?
On yet another sunless day with more drizzle and then heavy rain, all the holidaymakers seemed to be in Asda, or driving to it!
I normally use Tesco, which is about a mile further up the road. But I could see the traffic up the road was not moving so I decided on Asda instead. Even then, I had to queue to get round the roundabout.
Inside there were FAMILIES! Mum and Dad and kids running around. You can tell which are the tourists because locals don't tend to bring their whole family out, and wear rucksacks, and block the aisles with trolleys and pushchairs held level with each other as they get into groups and chat!
I can see that if you are camping in the bleak grey and damp weather, you would want to go to a place where it’s colourful (and noisy?) and full of toys and stuff and space for the kids to run around and explore. It’s just no fun for ordinary people like me who just want to get what I've run out of and then escape as fast as possible! There was even a queue for the self checkouts. That's in the photo. There are now very few human checkouts - two thirds of the pay area is self checkouts. The overhead lights are too garish for me as well as all the rest! The loud muzak is the worst!
Edit: I just heard on the news that despite his commitment to saving the planet, Sunak used his private jet to travel to Scotland today. His excuse for adding unnecessary carbon to the atmosphere was that he needed to make the best use of his time! If he gets a small forest fire in his garden while he’s away I hope he realises that it doesn’t matter because he made the best use of his time. What an ego! His time is more important than slowing down the overheating planet. I wonder if he will turn off the heating on his home swimming pool while he’s away on holiday? Just because he’s a billionaire it still matters that he’s wasting resources- he might be able to afford anything he wants, but the planet can’t afford his egocentric and selfish attitude!
