FIGGY's Sporadic Blips

Boy's toys

After 20 years we said goodbye two weeks ago to Fernando and Rosie, the horses in the field behind the house. The farmer arrived last week and put down weedkiller and returned today with the tractor ready to plough the field.

Over 40 years ago when MOH was a teenager he worked on a farm and during his time there learned the art of animal husbandry, castrating the bulls, and how to drive the tractor. A quick word with Robert this morning and he was in the tractor seat and ploughed a third of the field. He even telephoned me at work to let me know about it. He was just like a big kid with a new toy!

The field is going to be planted with turnips and we'll be able to welcome livestock back as our neighbours. This is great news for us on two levels:

1. It will stop every Tom, Dick, and Harry who have been using the field as a right of access to the forest for the last 6 years and walking past the edge of our garden, looking into our house
and
2. Hopefully it will help alleviate our hay fever problems as the 'horse man' let the field go to seed in the summer making it almost impossible for us to sit out in the garden in the height of the pollen season.

Here comes summer :-)
