Camel Ride

Mrs C was out for the day and the weather was atrocious, so I thought I’d do something I’ve been meaning to do for ages.
My grandfather died before I was born, so I never knew him, but I do know that he served in the Imperial Camel Corps in WW1. In amongst a box of hundreds of photographs that I acquired after dad died, I came across this small photo album, which contains photos of his time serving with the ICC in Egypt. As I have no one to leave it to after I’m gone, I decided that it was probably better to donate it to a museum. I thought I might as well start at the top and filled out the Imperial War Museum’s online submission form this afternoon. They do warn that they don’t take everything so I’ll just have to wait and see. As there don’t seem to be many references to the ICC on their website, I’m hoping this little album will be of interest.
At the very least, I’m hoping I might learn a bit more about my grandfather and his war service. The story in our family was that he fought alongside Lawrence of Arabia, though I’m not altogether certain that story might not have started until after the release of David Lean’s excellent film of the same name!
