Spreading our wings
When we checked in at the hotel we were given brochures for all sorts of tours, one of which involved riding in a Tuk (a larger version of the tuk-tuks in Thailand). We took one of these today, which involved travelling out of the town and into the countryside, ostensibly to see vineyards and sample the local wine. Our driver/guide was quite a character, who stopped frequently at the roadside to tell us about the various trees lining the roadside, including almond trees from which we sampled one freshly plucked.
The wine tasting didn’t live up to expectations, involving just a glass of either red, white or rosé. On the plus side, the tapas mentioned in the brochure turned out to be quite wonderful. Both wine and tapas, which we’d thought would be provided at an actual vineyard, were offered at a riverside café beside the old market in town.
Despite all this, it all turned into a highly enjoyable excursion, and very reasonably priced. That evening we grabbed an aperitif at the hotel’s rooftop bar before heading out to “our square” for a pleasant meal that we’d pre-booked the previous night when it had been difficult to find a table anywhere.
