Rinerhorn

Unfortunately last night the rain came in again so I did not go watch the National Day lantern parade. I expected the laser show to be seen all over the village and we never saw a thing from our terrace so I am not sure if it was not held because of the rain or it was just very small and low. And there were fireworks! After saying how fireworks are banned here, some people obviously disregarded that rule and let off explosive fireworks that filled the sky - poor Xena was shivering next to me on the sofa, and then eventually went and sat under the coffee table. 

This morning started off cool and a bit cloudy, although the forecast was for sunshine and 21C. We drove to Rinerhorn, a mountain just beyond the town of Davos where we got the gondola up the mountain (as seen here) and then had a lovely 2.5 hour walk down the valley to the village of Monstein. It was very scenic and the sun came out and we all got hot. Monstein is famous for its local brewery so we had a light lunch on the terrace of a local hotel there, and Gavin and Tommy of course had to have a Monstein beer with lunch. An extra of the lovely Rosebay willowherbs that are blooming everywhere at present.

After a quick lunch we had about 2 minutes to get the hourly bus back to Rinerhorn, so we ran down the road and just made it to the bus in time. Gavin is now working and has a zoom meeting, while Tommy has gone to the gym. 

On Saturday it was the start of the Klosters Music Festival, and tonight we have tickets to go to a trumpet concert called Himmlische Fanfaren (heavenly fanfares) where the program consists of pieces by Handel, Bach, Telemann and Purcell, many of which Tommy has played in his years as a trumpeter. Instead of being held in the Concert Hall it is being performed in  St Jacob church which dates back to 1492, so the sound should be lovely. We have been to concerts and carol services in that church on previous occasions.

Sadly Tommy leaves tomorrow and we go home on Saturday, I cannot believe our time here is drawing to a close. Each year we feel like we have not done half the things we planned to do. We also planned to play golf with Tommy as he wants to get back into golf, having played as a youngster but not having played for a few years now, but we have run out of time.
