Alnwick Castle from the banks of the River Aln
The threatened weather mayhem failed to materialise! Instead of the promised biblical deluge we had one short sharp shower. It was however, grey and cold with the ever threat of rain. The sun did shine at the end of the day so we have to be thankful for small mercies.
We spent most of the day with Susan’s family, firstly at their caravan near Bamburgh with all the children thoroughly enjoying themselves. After lunch we all went to Alnwick - to visit Barter’s Books for a browse. It was busy of course, fortunately we found a table for a restorative tea and shared scone.
People went their own ways back to the campsite. We stayed to walk around Alnwick and along the river, as you can see, then made our way back. Alnwick is a lovely town which, like so many other similar towns is blighted by traffic and a plethora of different sorts of discordant signs and street furniture.
Back at the site we had an excellent dinner albeit outside where some of us were wearing big coats, hats, gloves and covered with a blanket. We did retreat inside the awning later, the 1kw heater trying valiantly to make it cosy.
