Matilija poppies

I posted a photo of these poppies in my other journal on July 23, and I knew I'd go back to take some more photos. I stopped this morning for this one. I've always called them 'fried egg flowers', so I googled that and it turns out that these are Matilija poppies, native to California and northern Mexico. Guess I'm not the only one who's called them that! They really are beautiful and the display in a driveway close to us is spectacular. The petals look like crepe paper.
