'For a young Starling like me, this particular Restaurant is a bit difficult to handle. Mummy, can we try ground feeding, please?'

This afternoon we watched a whole family of young Starlings trying hard, and mostly failing, either to stand steadily on the iron work or to see how to get the food out of the feeders. They did at last go down on to the ground below, to be fed by the parents from the fallen seed. Apparently, instinct has not cottoned on to feeding stations yet. It has to be a learned experience.
