Diary of an Edinburgher

Cruise Day One

Through security at the airport painlessly, and a two hour flight to Munich was fine, we found the meeting point at the airport no bother. There were several other people from other flights already there, waiting for us. Things were going smoothly... But there was a bit of a mix up/cock up and luggage was missing and/or people had gone to the boat already - and we had to wait for it. Everyone was very agitated. The long and the short of it was, our drive to Nuremberg took longer than expected (rush hour) and with being delayed, we didn't get to the ship till 6pm! Everyone else was on board, settled in and looking relaxed, but we soon got in the holiday mood.

While waiting at the airport, we sat beside a lady who had a fabulous yellow leather bag, and I admired it, even more so when she showed me the purple lining. JR recognised it as a Louis Vuitton and we bonded with our new friends. The owner had bought it twenty years ago. They're good fun.

The two people we happened to sit with in the lounge before dinner were Aussies. In fact there are lots of Aussies on this trip (it's an Aussie company). They had lived in Edinburgh in 1980 - he was lecturing at the uni, and they lived in... guess where... our street!!! We bonded with them too. And their other Aussie pals.

Dinner was delicious - I had butterfish and it was as tasty as it was colourful. Then we had a Bavarian band to entertain us for the evening.

Sunk in, exhausted, to the comfiest bed ever. And the shower is amazing, with lots of buttons to press and water comes from all angles and even turns into a gushing waterfall.

Let the fun begin!!

(I didn’t have a huge choice of photos…)
