Divergence

When A and I ate at the Craigie this evening, we compared notes on how our professional situations have changed over the past seven years. Back then, my career was going nowhere, and I was bitter about the School and University. A's day job was great, and she was prominent on a national level in her field. Now the tables have turned completely. Neither of us has done anything particular to cause the change: it's just been a sequence of small moments of good/bad luck. A's situation seems irrevocable, which is stressful in itself.

Earlier I'd had a productive day at work, retuning yesterday's lunch experience with Y by sharing leftover risotto with her.
