Pittenweem Art Festival 2023
On the basis of the weather forecast earlier in the week, we made plans for a trip to Fife today. We intended to start with a picnic lunch in Pittenweem and a quick look at the exhibits at the art festival. Then we were going to drive to Crail to leave the car and then spend the rest of the afternoon walking from Crail to Anstruther and back again, ending our day out with supper in Crail.
As things turned out, we completely underestimated the scale of the festival. Four hours after our arrival at Pittenweem, we were finally ready for a walk. It was far too late to head further up the coast, so instead we walked from Pittenweem to Anstruther. After a short wait in the restaurant queue, we were soon tucking into fish and chips for supper at the Anstruther Fish Bar. Walking back to the car at Pittenween in the fading evening light was reminiscent of our trips back to our accommodation by bike or on foot following evening meals on holiday. We finally returned home in Edinburgh at 9:15pm.
We really enjoyed the art festival. We didn't buy anything - our favourite picture (by Margaret L Smyth) had already been sold - but we saved the details of the artists that we admired the most. One of my favourite exhibits was a model of a workshop by Reinhard Behrens. I have added a shot of this as an extra. It looks full size, but when you know that that's a strip of 35mm film hanging from the centre of the ceiling, you need to force your brain to understand that this exhibit is the size of a small box - and not a room.
I love the pop of colour of the hydrangea against the rocks and sky, as well as the reflection, in the shot that I have chosen for my blip today.
Exercise today: 1 hour on the exercise bike; walking (~27,000 steps).
