Fell edge hamlet

This is Potts Gill a hamlet near Caldbeck in the northern fells of the Lake District. The shadowy hills in the far distance are in southern Scotland. The settlement in the mid distance to the right in the trees is Nether Row where Sir Chris Bonnington lives or lived.

This area of the Lakes is my favourite. It's not as spectacular as the honey pot sites but crowds are unknown, underfoot is largely grass, the hills are quite high and there is a lot of sky.

Today was windless - almost unknown! The landscape is green on the whole with only last year's bracken or grasses giving a grey sheen. The gorse is in fine fettle this year.
