Boat Launch

Three new boats for the school/Falcon boat club - and they were officially launched today by an Oxford Blue, with a liberal sprinkling of bubbles in the beautiful sunshine.

And afterwards off across the bridge to City where I was spotting for the singles on a chaotically busy river. Spotting involves cycling up and down the towpath with an emergency throw line and - as scullers move backwards - checking they are steering and have seen any oncoming hazards. And there were plenty of hazards from Salters Steamers, a surprising number of cruisers (Henley crowd slumming it upriver?) , tourists punting in an erratic manner..... several close calls, but no one got a dunking, no boats were damaged or children hurt.

However I had a hurt child waiting for me at home - his back wheel fell off his bike whilst he was riding it on Monday and he flew backwards into the road scraping the skin off his back, shoulder and left arm and leg. Thankfully he had just turned off the main road or I dread to think what could have happened if he's been flung into the moving traffic. Poor lamb, however big and smelly they get, they'll always be my little boys.
