Spectator Squad

What a day!  We've been treated to some real Glasweigan weather today, the best bit was standing in blazing hot sunshine whilst the rain bucketed down around us.  It made everything tricky for the competitors too with wet wheels and wet obstacles for the Trials competition.  For one of the junior competitiors there was a moment of a harder line choice which made for a more spectacular ride and no sooner had the commentator said 'that must be because the course is drying out and wouldn't have been possible in the wet' then the rain came down again, and said competitor then slipped off a much easier obstacle due to the rain.  Hats off to everyone though - trials is tough enough in the dry, never mind when everything is totally wet!

I'd intended on nipping into town to catch the end of the junior road race after my shift, but after saying bye to everyone I was just too shattered.  It's been a lovely experience volunteering - you get an almost instant team feeling with people that you spend lots of time with for a week, and then you will likely never see some of them ever again.  Especially as there are seasoned volunteers who travel long distances just to be at the events. Hoping that I can keep in touch with some of the Glasgow crew though and fingers crossed for a volunteer after party!

Takeaways from the week: BMX is a lot of fun, all these athletes are stupidly talented, Glasgow is a fantastic city for events and it generally feels like from the competitiors, volunteers, staff and spectators that these things can really bring out the best in people.  It's restored my faith in humanity a wee bit.

Only regret - not catching Danny Mac in the crowd when he was hanging about for the BMX!
