The delights of small engines

My blip is the carburettor (where the fuel and air are mixed)for the leaf blower we use at the church - I managed to fix it today, although at the cost of smelling strongly of petrol.

Nerdy bit follows:
It's not been a happy leaf blower for a little while, today I found out why.
The fuel filter which sits on the end of the fuel pick-up tube had become detached so any bits of yuk in the tank were being drawn up into the carburettor.  I won't claim to understand how it works, there's no float chamber, but after consulting a variety of You Tube videos I blew the cavities, jets, and needle valves out with an air duster and it now runs normally.

Rhetorical question: why is it that most of the (skilled and capable) people producing these fix your small engine videos sound like characters from The Dukes of Hazard?

Edit: for the very keen - this video explains how the carb draws fuel using engine crankcase pressure, and then meters the flow into the engine.
The presenter does not sound like Boss Hog, or cousin Daisy!
