Preston Tower
In search of a blip, I pop along to the neighbouring town of Prestonpans to see how the restoration of the tower and gardens is getting on. The tower was built in the 1460s and has had a fairly turbulent past, which has included being burnt out a few times, most recently by Oliver Cromwell in 1650.
Anyway, it’s now in the guardianship of East Lothian council and is not national importance, as the survival of the garden enclosure and dovecot is rare. The scaffolding round the tower has recently come down, with final restorative now taking place before it will be open to the public again.
I find it amazing to think I am looking at a building that someone in the 1460s was looking at (albeit, they probably saw it in a newer condition). I will wonder how many of the buildings being built now will still be around in over 560 plus years. Well, they do say that time is the ultimate discerner.
Anyway, I hope you are having a good Monday.
