Seeing red

I enjoyed Blazin' Fiddles last night - a good mix of playing together and sole violin turns. My favourite was Rua Macmillan and a selection of tunes from Cape Breton and Montreal.  This was followed by the whole band playing sound especially rousing tunes.  The Birnam Institute was sold out which was good to see. We don't do too badly for entertainment up here - we even have Big Country playing the town hall in November !

It was definitely dark when we left - the long light summer nights have gone. If that isn't enough (along with schools being back) I also spotted red leaves this morning in the park opposite !

I'd been doing a few errands in town including collecting a copy of All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy which is my Edinburgh's Book Group book for September.  I confess to not being familar with Cormac McCarthy and assuming that he was an Irish author.  Looking forward to reading something different - one of the many pleasures of book group.

Another book group pleasure was our trip to Dublin a few years back which included a visit an exhibition about the life and works of Seamus Heaney. Such a wonderful poet and human. It is 10 since his death and I'm looking forward to this series on Radio 4  Four Sides of Seamus Heaney, Seamus Heaney  starting on Sunday.

T is out playing in one of the local pubs tonight which means I get to watch Machair followed by Series 3 of Only Murders in the Building. Win win !
