World Photography Day
We had a trip today to Belsay Hall, an English Heritage property a few miles from Newcastle. We've been there many times over the years, and it was a favourite haunt of my parents - indeed our last visit was last July when we took my Dad there for old times' sake, not knowing that he'd reach the end of his long life less than 2 months later.
Anyway, there were some folk practising their Croquet skills, fully dressed for the occasion, so I thought this would make a suitable blip if I gave it a vintage look as today is World Photography Day*.
The extra is a tadpole we spotted in a pool in the quarry area - we think it may be a newt but I'm happy to be corrected.
* World Photography Day is the date that recognizes the invention of the Daguerrotype, a process that was devised by the French artist and photographer, Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre in 1837. His idea was then effectively sold to the French Academy of Sciences, which subsequently gifted the process to the world on 19 August 1839.
