What one does at the seaside...

This just about sums up our day: Fish & Chips and Ice Cream at the seaside! (Although our ice cream wasn't actually from this van.)

Son#2 had intended to take the train back to Bath today but it wasn't possible for him to get a seat reservation, and as he's still understandably slightly fragile following his hospital procedure on Thursday he didn't want to risk having to stand a lot of the way. (The train was probably extra-busy because of the strike yesterday.) He's managed to book a seat for tomorrow - so we had the pleasure of his visit being extended by a day.

And what's more we had some nice summer weather at last! So we headed off to Tynemouth and had a lovely walk along the beach (see the extra*), sustained by fish & chips at the start and ice cream later. It was even quite warm (by northeast standards anyway) in spite of a fair breeze. Bliss!
