Ringing visitors

There was ringing all day in the church today as part of the summer school and a peal for the visiting ringers. The band made up of members of the Ancient Society of College Youths is one of the best in the world. I will just quote what our tower captain said about their achievement, "This is by far the most complex peal to have been rung on our bells. As well as being the first peal of Cyclic Royal rung outside the UK, it’s also the first peal of Spliced Royal on the bells here. It’s of sufficient difficulty to be likely to remain the most advanced peal on our bells for the foreseeable future. Not many ringers can just rock up, throw caution to the wind and ring this sort of stuff.“ It is recorded on the site where these things are listed as

5004 Spliced Royal (8m)
720 each Actium Surprise, Alamo Surprise, Carthage Surprise, Dresden Surprise, Elvina Surprise, Falkirk Delight; 504 Monte Cassino Little Alliance; 180 Stirling Bridge Differential Little Alliance; 125 com; atw.

That is gobbledygook to most people and is way beyond my compass. Tomorrow is my turn to try something at the limits of my abilities hopefully surrounded by some of these expert ringers to keep me right!
