Knottman’s wild plants
Biennials. This may not look very exciting but it is interesting.
This is Great Mullein. Verbascum thapsus.
It is one of the plants which find it impossible to germinate, grow foliage, push up a flower spike, flower and set seed all in one season.
So here is what it has achieved in its first year. Next Spring it will put all its energy into growing a flower spike, up to 2 feet tall and setting seed. Having done that it will die and its continued existence will rely on the seed which it has scattered.
My extra shows the berries of a Guelder Rose.
