Family bonds
A special picture
This is my niece and her father who she met for the first time two weeks ago. She was adopted at birth and having traced her mother in 2000 was reunited with us, her maternal birth family then. Her father was unknown apart from his first name and that he was from New Zealand. In July she decided it was time see if she could track him down.
The family detectives and a close friend got to work and just two weeks later he had been found and contacted. Remarkably, although still living in New Zealand, he was in London for two months so they were quickly reunited.
I must admit to having real concerns that either the reunion would not go well or that there would be difficulties with other members of his family, and that either party could end up being hurt, however I was wrong.
Yesterday they flew to Glasgow and we all met up in the evening - her maternal birth family, her adoptive family and now her father too. He seems to be very happy to have gained both a daughter and 25 year old granddaughter! For her part, our niece is very happy to finally know, as she's put it, where she came from.
Apologies, I'm blipping a day late as we were late home last night, I'll likely catch up tomorrow.
