Time to celebrate
It's Wattle Day in Australia today, and the first day of spring. And, in Blipfoto world it's Flower Friday. So I spent some this this morning photographing flowers in the Lake Ainsworth heathland
In my collage, the main photo is Coastal Wattle, Acacia longifolia.
Clockwise from there are:
Sword Bossiaea (Bossiaea ensata), often lumped in with many red and yellow pea flowers and called 'egg and bacon'.
Smooth Parrot-pea (Dillwynia glaberima), also an 'egg and bacon' type.
Wallum or Heath Banksia (Banksia aemula).
Slender Rice-flower (Pimelia linifolia).
Wedding bush (Ricinicarpos pinifolius).
Returning to the Wattle Day theme - when I grew up in Sydney in the late 1940s - early 1950s Wattle Day was celebrated, if at all, on 1 August. In 1992 it was agreed to standardise the date across Australia, and 1 September was agreed. Wikipedia has much detail.
